Charles Barkley loves Saban, but if Alabama ‘played Afghanistan, I’d be pulling for Afghanistan’

While Auburn was taking care of USC 91-75 on Sunday in basketball, Charles Barkley was giving his take on a number of issues as a guest on the ESPN broadcast.

The former Auburn basketball star was in attendance as his Tigers took care of Bronny James and the Trojans, but the talk quickly turned to the College Football Playoff.

After the network promoted No. 1 Michigan vs. No. 4 Alabama, Barkley quipped, “What time is Florida State playing?”

His joke was followed-up with passionate case for the Seminoles making the CFP.

“Florida State should have made it,” he said. “As a player, this is my problem with the whole thing. They penalized them because they lost their starters. I said, ‘Wait a minute, you are showing total disrespect to the other players. That was my problem.’

“You know how much I love (Alabama) coach (Nick) Saban and Alabama. I mean I don’t like Alabama. I like coach Saban. Winning with backups should have gotten you brownie points, not penalize you.”

Barkley admits he is looking forward to the CFP and has no idea who will win, but he knows who he won’t be rooting.

To be honest with you, I’m really looking forward to the playoffs. I have zero idea who is going to win those two games because we have four elite teams. I’m gonna be watching. I can’t root for Alabama under any circumstances. I love coach Saban. He’s been great to me, but I can never root for Alabama under any circumstances. I told you, if they played Afghanistan, I’d be pulling for Afghanistan.
